National Association of Melkite Women

The National Association of Melkite Women (NAMW) was founded in 1986 by Archbishop Joseph Tawil, of blessed memory. Our purpose is to promote and support vocations to the priesthood and religious life in the United States. We communicate with all of the women’s groups in our parishes hoping to make each one aware of what others are doing to further our goal. Our feast day is the Sunday of the Ointment Bearing Women. These women followed Jesus around, ministering to Him out of their own resources. NAMW uses its resources to minister to our Eparchy. To belong to NAMW, each member must pay annual dues of $10.00. Any woman over the age of 17 can join. We also ask that members pray for vocations. Finally we ask each parish to have one fundraiser each year and donate the proceeds to NAMW. Our patron feast is the second Sunday after Pascha, the Sunday of the Myrrh Bearing Women. Many parishes have their fundraiser on that day. The fundraiser can be anything a group decides to do. Some examples are: meals after Liturgy, second collection, bake sale, sale of religious items, etc. Please send a list of members, dues, and any money raised to Mrs. Colette Sabak, our treasurer. We need one person from each chapter to be our contact person. The most important thing to remember is that all of money goes to support the men studying to be Melkite priests. NAMW sends each of them a check every month. This money helps to pay for their expenses while in the seminary. We have an article and membership form in every issue of Sophia.
