These resurrectional troparia by C. Haddad are normally sung on Sundays during the part of the liturgy called the "Little Entrance." The following MIDI files have included here so as to give a flavor of the sounds of the Melkite chanting. Traditionally instrumental music is never actually in Melkite services. The tradition is to sing all the parts of the Divine Liturgy, as "we offer only our best to God and our best instrument of praise is the human voice."
In additional to MIDI files, there are corresponding MP3 files from Fr. Justin Rose in which the troparia are sung. A sampling of music in the eight tones is available on the Links page under Melkite Music.
First Tone: MIDI (rhythm), MP3 (vocal)
"While the stone was sealed by the Jews and the soldiers were watching your sacred body, You rose, O Savior, on the third day, giving life to the world. Wherefore, O Giver of life, the Powers of heaven cried out: Glory to your Resurrection, O Christ, glory to your Kingdom, glory to your Plan of Redemption, O, You who alone are the Lover of mankind."
Second Tone: MIDI (rhythm), MP3 (vocal)
"When You descended to Death, O Immortal Life, You destroyed Hades by the splendor of your Divinity, and when You raised the dead from under the ground, all the Powers of heaven cried out: O Christ our God, the Giver of life, glory to You."
Third Tone: MIDI (rhythm), MP3 (vocal)
"Let the heavens rejoice and the earth be gold! For the Lord has done a wondrous deed by his arm; He had crushed Death by his death, becoming the first to rise from the dead. He had delivered us from the moth of Hades and bestowed great mercy upon the world.
Fourth Tone: MIDI (rhythm), MP3 (vocal)
"The Women disciples of the Lord heard from the Angel the joyful news of the Resurrection, and casting away the ancestral sentence, they announced with pride to the Apostles; Death is vanquished, Christ God is risen! and has bestowed great mercy upon the world."
Fifth Tone: MIDI (rhythm), MP3 (vocal)
"Let us, O Faithful, praise and worship the Word coeternal with the Father and the Spirit, born of the Virgin for our salvation. For He has willed to be lifted in the flesh upon the Cross, and to endure death, and to raised the dead by his glorious Resurrection."
Sixth Tone: MIDI (rhythm), MP3 (vocal)
"The angelic Powers appeared at your tomb, and the guards became as dead men, and Mary stood by the Sepulcher seeking your spotless body. You despoiled Hades and yet were not tempted by it, You met the Virgin, O Bestower of Life. O Lord who rose from the dead, glory to You."
Seventh Tone: MIDI (rhythm), MP3 (vocal)
"Through you Cross You destroyed Death, You opened Paradise to the Thief, and turned into joy the mourning of the ointment-bearing Women, and You ordered your Apostles to proclaim that You rose, O Christ God, bestowing great mercy upon the world."
Eighth Tone: MIDI (rhythm), MP3 (vocal)
"O Merciful One, You came down from on high, and endured burial for three days in order to save us from suffering. O our Life and our Resurrection, glory to You."
